Tribal Phase Screenshots - SporeIn the creature phase, players evolved their creatures to be smart and social enough for form tribes; in this phase, players try to make tribes of their creatures as successful as possible using gameplay similar to that of the game Populus. Players no longer have to worry about physical evolution - instead, they focus on evolving the efficiency and effectiveness of the tribe as a group.

Players are given control over fully-evolved creatures that have been granted two (out of six possible) "super powers" that have been determined from previous gameplay. Using a single hut and a mini-map of the entire world, players must hunt and gather food. Food (not DNA points) is now the main currency and it can now be traded for musical instruments, weapons, or campfires.Tribal Phase Screenshots - Spore

As tribe members begin to take on specialized roles, players can purchase clothing that denote their line of work. These roles are determined by the player, as are the behaviors of the creatures - aggressive play will result in aggressive creatures while cooperative play will result in more peaceful creatures.

Tribes will have the ability to tame other creatures, or even raise other creatures as livestock. They can also contact other tribes in friendly or hostile manners, depending on the players' choice. Creatures will also develop the ability to vocally speak in this phase, with speech depending on the kind of mouth they have.

As players advance their tribes above other tribes in the near proximity, the tribe will transition into the civilization phase.
