Civilization Phase Tips
Sep 17 2008, 7:13 PM EDT | Post edited: Sep 17 2008, 7:13 PM EDT
Let's share our best civilization phase tips and tricks. We can discuss them in the discussion forum on this thread, then put the best ones on the spore civilization phase tips page: http://www.sporeillustrated.com/page/Spore+Civilization+Phase+Tips

Here are the first two I added:
* Starting off, build a vehicle, then grab all the spice geysers that you can drive your vehicle to.
* After taking over a city, grab their spice geysers as quick as you can.

This changes for every city because of the links between buildings are random.
Look at the sidewalks that go between lots to see where your links will be.

You can multiply results for factories & entertainment centers by having them link to city hall as well as houses.
You don't get any benefit for houses that link to city hall or each other (beyond population).

Start with a factory that links to city hall and the two lots next to it. Then put a house on either side. Add an entertainment building, if possible also accessing city hall.

Then add buildings as you think they'll help.
After buying, you can move them around without selling. If you move a building to a lot that already has a building on it, they will trade places.
In addition to the colored lines on the map, watch the city planning key in the upper right, it'll tell you what your results will be for the current layout.

After placing the basic buildings (1 factory, 1 entertainment & 2 houses) I try to save up a decent amount of money so that I can buy lots of buildings at one time,
shuffling them around to see what works best.
This way I can play around with placing and resell them without loosing (much) money. If you leave city planner and go back, reselling will be at a lower price.

Hope this helps

If you are playing as a religious culture, send 3-4 land vehicles out to one of the big wild creatures that lurk out in the woods. Convert him. This requires the sacrificing of several of your vehicles as these creatures seems less than enthusiastic about being converted (I assume that my citizens driving the vehicles were willing to die for their religion). You can tell he's converted when musical notes start appearing all around him. Once converted, the creature will follow the vehicle that converted him, so drive up beside one of your opponent's cities and just park your vehicle there. The conversion wears off rather quickly and then your "neighbors" will have to deal with a wild creature in a really bad mood. I go in to take over the city just after the wild creature attack as the city will still be trying to recover from that. 12  out of 12 found this valuable. Do you?

By wild animal, do you mean the epics - The really big ones? Or just regular sized wild animals.
I've seen epics attack and destroy cities, so that must be what you're referring to.

Wow...I've fought epics as a military city, and I've taken over another city after an epic destroyed it, the epic & the city died about the same time.
I never thought of trying to convert one as religious...good tip!!!

I wonder if airplanes are out of their reach and wouldn't be destroyed while they're converting...probably not.
Also, can epics cross water if they're bonded to an airplane? This could be a great tool for when it's down to just you and another major power, but they're usually across the ocean where they've been gaining strength before you can get access to a plane.
